We are more alike than different…
…that’s how I approach my world, embracing my seemingly disparate identities, while navigating a society that seeks binary solutions to complex challenges. I now call Los Angeles home, but I was raised in the South. It was a cultural shift when I moved here a decade ago, but I carried through the values I felt the West Coast also admired - humble hospitality, an unrushed state-of-mind, and authentic relationships with genuine folx from any background. My career in the entertainment industry has followed a similar path.
I began at World of Wonder, below-the-line as an assistant editor for shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race and Million Dollar Listing. After a foundational year at a small, queer-owned, queer-content focused production company, my next step felt more like a leap into another universe: The Disney Channels Creative Marketing Group. My skills in post-production, asset management, and workflow were prized and transferable, however this was new territory culturally - Disney was, and still is, a multi-billion dollar, international corporation known for its family-friendly content and blockbuster films - no offense, Ru, this was another level.
My 8 years at the company were inspiring as I moved from coordinator to writer/producer. I was given unparalleled opportunities such as launching and maintaining the brand of an entirely new children’s network, Disney Jr., to leading the marketing campaign for the latest preschool iteration of the iconic Mouse, Mickey and The Roadster Racers, and also receiving an Emmy nomination for highlighting kids, all less than 7 years old, who were inspired to raise awareness in their communities around literacy, the environment, and accessibility for those with disabilities.
I’m honored my time at Disney was among such a talented group of people who mentored me and taught me how to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes, ever-changing environment. Now, I’m more than ready for another leap and excited to carry through the skills that apply to my next chapter,
hopefully that includes you.
